The history of Zortrax is a perfect example that, contrary to many pessimistic opinions, it is possible to achieve commercial success in Poland and in Western Europe. In 2011, the company's founders began working on the now iconic M200 printer, and just two years later, the project was supported by a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter and acquired a legal form (it became a limited liability company). In 2015, the company went public, and a year later it received funding from a private investor for the dizzying amount of 44 million PLN. Today, Zortrax is a brand probably known to everyone who has contact with 3D printing - whether only in amateur applications or in fully professional production or prototyping.
The brand that sets the standard
Zortrax 3Dprinters are known for their high quality, stable operation even in high-volume production applications, as well as solid technical support. For customers - mainly companies and universities - this is a key issue, because for obvious reasons, users of even the best DIY printers cannot count on this kind of support (at least to such an extent). However, the company did not rely on a single technology, but - as is usual in the 3D printing industry - quickly introduced high-end printers based on SLA technology. Unlike many other models of this type of device, the Zortrax Inkspire does not use a laser or DLP projector, but an LCD screen backlit by ultraviolet (405 nm wavelength). Thanks to this solution, the printer is not only very fast, but also allows to obtain extremely high quality of printed elements. However, the main area of the company's activity is still the classic 3D printers, for which Zortrax offers dedicated filaments, ensuring high quality printing and the possibility of using all the capabilities of these excellent printers.
Printers in FFF / LPD technology
Layer by layer 3D printing technology using a hot head, which heats the filament and applies thin lines of material on previously printed outlines or elements of the filling, has become a standard and is now implemented in printers of virtually all major printer manufacturers in the world. The advantage of this method of producing spatial details is low resultant price of the process, which is significant in almost all applications - both amateur (where high costs are usually out of the question), and fully professional production lines, dedicated to repeatable production of high quality details for prototyping and production of final device elements. Zortrax 3D printers are ideal for such purposes - not only because of the very high, already legendary quality of printing effects, but also because of the wide functionality, dedicated to support the construction of 3D printer farms - here it is important not only for specialized software, but also a rich equipment in terms of communication interfaces. Zortrax printers are equipped with both - typical for such machines - USB port, Ethernet interface and even WiFi.
Advanced solutions
Particularly attractive to end users are printers from the Zortrax M200 Plus series (successor to the first commercial model, produced by the company at the initial stage of its operations), as well as the M300 and M300 Plus. The latter already supports a workspace with substantial dimensions of 300 x 300 x 300 mm, and even offers a camera for remote viewing of the printing process. A significant improvement is the option to purchase the printer with a dedicated HEPA filter, ensuring not only user safety by eliminating the emission of heated material particles into the environment, but also significantly stabilizing the temperature inside the printing chamber, which is important for high dimensional accuracy and the overall quality of printing effects.
