The optical limit switch assembly for the Elegoo Centauri Carbon 2 3D printer is responsible for detecting the Z-axis reference position during the printer's homing procedure. Unlike a classic mechanical limit switch, it uses an optical system in which a special shutter passes through the sensor's slit and interrupts the light beam. This allows for repeatable detection without physically pressing the switch. The Z-axis optical limit switch helps stop the drive after reaching a specific position and protects the mechanism from further movement outside its intended range. Damage to the sensor, contamination of its slit, or improper cable connection can cause homing problems, Z-axis errors, or continued operation of the motors after reaching the endpoint.
