Limit switches - Simple construction and long service life
The principle of operation of the limit switch (limit switches) is based on electromechanical switching of the position of the movable contact and occurs as a result of physical contact of an external object with an actuator that exerts pressure on the limit contact lever of the switch, and the switching threshold is adjustable.
Limit sensor - additional information
When the actuator physically connected to the limit sensor is rotated or moved, the position of the electrical contacts changes - due to the fact that limit switches are characterized by one stable position, depending on the design of the switch, its contacts may be open or closed in the stable state ( using the appropriate symbols: NO or NC ).
Important advantages of limit sensors are their long service life, a repeatably high level of precision when switching, even in unfavorable environmental conditions, and the ability to switch high-power electrical loads. A limit switch can be a key element in your design to control the state of the circuit.
Reed switches and magnetic sensors - perfect for alarm systems
A reed contact is a switch whose contact state is changed by applying a magnetic field source. This source may be a magnet or an electric circuit through which a sufficiently large current flows.
Then, placed in a vacuum medium in a glass envelope, the contact system made of ferromagnetic material is shorted and the reed switch begins to conduct current in the electric circuit of which it is a part. After removing the source of the magnetic field, the reed switch contacts open, which interrupts the current conduction in the circuit.
Reed switches and magnetic sensors are elements often installed in buildings and are designed to activate an alarm or bell when doors or windows are opened. At weather stations in anemometers, many reed switches are switched in the appropriate order depending on the wind speed, which is calculated on the basis of the time intervals between the activation of individual reed switches. In the sensors category you can also find accelerometers , light and color sensors , distance sensors and many others.

Limit sensors - FAQ
A limit sensor is a type of sensor (usually in the form of a simple mechanical switch) used to detect when a moving machine element (e.g. a 3D printer head) reaches the end of the safe range of movement in a given direction.
The most commonly used limit switches are mechanical switches with a lever or roller. In practice, however, you can also find reed contacts (cooperating with a small magnet) or optoelectronic sensors ( gap or reflection optocouplers ).
