TPU - flexible filament for 3D printer
The flexible filaments are often used for automotive parts, household appliances, or medical devices. Such materials are mostly soft and stretchy and can, therefore, withstand high loads.
Flexible filaments are commercially available under the names TPE, Flex Filament, or TPU. These special thermoplastics have properties that make them ideal for use in the filament sector. Thermoplastic elastomer based on urethane ( TPU) belongs to the polymer group of thermoplastic elastomers (TPE's). These are polymers that have elastic behavior at room temperature and act like classic elastomers (rubber). When the polymers are heated, plastic deformation is possible.
TPU filament is very stretchy and has a high softening temperature, making it a good replacement for rubber. It's perfect for the experienced users looking for a filament with high mechanical properties, yet easy to print. Because this filament doesn't break and bends with movements, it can be used to print products such as shoe soles and other shock-absorbing applications. Our store offers high-quality Devil Design TPU filaments that have been extensively tested and are suitable for demanding users. With our TPU filaments, you can start printing immediately! TPU is stronger compared to other flexible materials available on the market. This filament is also very easy to print with, that's why it has gained large popularity in recent years. To use TPU Filament, your printer must be suitable for flexible materials.
This is often standard but can optionally be achieved with a Flexion Extruder.
Printing with TPU
TPU can be printed at 190 - 220 ° C temperature without heating the printing table. It is optimal if the material feed is directly above the print head. TPU filament is one of the most popular FDM / FFF printing materials for flexible rubber-like products. Basically, you can also work without a heated printing table, but the printing results improve when a heating temperature of 0 - 50 ° C is set. There are various ways of coating the printing plate if there are problems with adhesion to the printing plate. While printing with TPU, It's unnecessary to heat the entire 3D printer since there is minimal shrinking (warping) of the printed components when they cool down.
Areas of application for TPU filaments
TPU is suitable, for example, for creating insulation around buildings and outside areas. The material can also be used for electrical and soundproofing shielding. This flexible filament also has a high resistance to environmental influences such as grease, oil, and abrasion. Unless explicitly stated by the manufacturer, it shouldn't be used with food because it's not safe.
Do you want to print flexible parts? If so, TPU is definitely a material to add to your list.
This filament offers unique opportunities that cannot be achieved with other 3D printing materials such as ABS, PLA, or nylon. TPU can produce elastic, highly resilient parts that can be easily bent or compressed by combining the properties of plastic and rubber.
