Gledopto: controllers for smart LED lighting

Gledopto is a manufacturer from Shenzhen, China, that has been working on wireless control of LED lighting for years. The brand designs LED strip controllers in the Zigbee 3.0 and WiFi standards, controllers with WLED firmware for addressable strips, Matter-compatible controllers and devices operated with a 2.4 GHz radio remote. With one brand you can handle both simple furniture backlighting and elaborate lighting effects throughout your home. At Botland you will find the GL-C-301P 5 in 1 Zigbee mini controller for strips powered with 12-24 V, and the GL-BS-001WL signal amplifier for addressable strips controlled by WLED.

Zigbee, WiFi or WLED: which LED controller to choose

The choice depends on how you control your home. A Zigbee LED controller works in a mesh network with other Zigbee 3.0 devices and requires a Zigbee gateway or coordinator. It is a good solution if you already have a smart home system and want the lighting to react to sensors and automations. A WiFi controller connects directly to your home network, so you can operate it from an app without an additional gateway.

A WLED controller is the choice for addressable strips, where each LED can be controlled individually. WLED is open-source firmware for ESP32 microcontrollers that offers more than 100 ready-made effects, schedules and control from a browser or an app. Gledopto controllers with WLED come with this firmware installed at the factory, so you do not need to program anything.

Which LED strips you can use

Gledopto controllers support popular types of LED strips:

  • single-color strips, where you adjust only the brightness
  • CCT strips, where you change the white color from warm to cool
  • RGB, RGBW and RGBCCT strips, which combine colors with white light
  • addressable strips, controlled by WLED controllers

Some controllers support several types of strips, and you select the operating mode during configuration. Before you order, check the supply voltage and the current per channel on the product page to match the controller to your strip.

What to keep in mind during installation

Choose a power supply that matches the strip voltage and the power of the entire length, with a margin for losses. With long addressable strips the data signal weakens and can cause flickering, so the manufacturer offers signal amplifiers that you install between the controller and the strip. On some controllers you can also set the PWM frequency to avoid flickering visible in a phone camera or to match the operation to the power supply.

Frequently asked questions about Gledopto

What does a 5 in 1 controller mean?
One controller can handle five types of strips: RGBCCT, RGBW, RGB, CCT and single-color. You select the strip type during configuration, so if you change the strip you do not need to buy a new controller.

Does a Zigbee controller work without a gateway?
No. Zigbee 3.0 controllers connect to a Zigbee gateway or coordinator. If you do not have a gateway, choose a WiFi or WLED controller.

How does a WLED controller differ from a regular WiFi controller?
A WLED controller drives addressable strips and each LED separately, so you get motion effects and gradients. A regular WiFi controller changes the color and brightness of the whole strip at once.

Do Gledopto controllers work with smart home systems?
Yes. Zigbee controllers work through the gateway in your system, and WLED provides its own control in the local network. You can find the supported platforms for a given model in its description.
