Two ZigBee and Thread radios in one gateway
SMLIGHT SLZB-MR3U is a gateway with two radios that work at the same time. Each radio uses its own channel. One radio handles a ZigBee 3.0 network, and the other handles a Thread network, where Matter devices operate.
The Texas Instruments CC2674P10 radio has a transmit power of +20 dBm and extended RAM, so it works well as the coordinator of a large ZigBee network. The Silicon Labs EFR32MG24 radio has a hardware AI/ML accelerator and handles the Thread network for Matter devices. The manufacturer marks this variant as recommended in the MRxU series.
The gateway connects to the network over Ethernet and can be powered via PoE, which means through the same network cable. This lets you place it in a spot with good coverage, away from the Home Assistant server. USB Type-C power works as an alternative and can be used together with PoE.

Is it a good choice for you?

The SLZB-MRxU series has five variants that differ only in the pair of radio chips. The enclosure, connectors, processor and software are the same in all of them, so you choose a gateway by the type of network, not by its equipment.

Does it work with Home Assistant?
Yes. The gateway works with ZHA, Zigbee2MQTT and the native SMLIGHT integration in Home Assistant.
Does it support Matter?
Yes, over the Thread network. The gateway has a built-in Thread Border Router (OTBR), through which you can add Matter devices.
Do ZigBee and Thread work at the same time?
Yes. Each radio works on its own channel, so the ZigBee network and the Thread network run simultaneously, without switching modes.
How do I update the gateway?
You can update the firmware of both radios and the processor remotely (OTA) from the SLZB-OS panel, without a programming cable.
