Easy connection of Arduino Modulino Light sensor

Modulino Light is designed to work with boards equipped with a Qwiic interface or an I2C bus operating at 3.3V. The manufacturer recommends using the module with Arduino UNO R4 WiFi and Arduino UNO Q boards , but the sensor also works with Arduino Nano ESP32, Nano RP2040 Connect, Nano 33 IoT, Nano 33 BLE, Nano Matter, and other compatible platforms . Communication takes place via the I2C bus using the fixed address 0x53. The board features two Qwiic connectors, allowing for serial connection of additional modules. Additionally, the manufacturer has provided solder pads with GND, 3.3V, SDA, and SCL signals, allowing the module to be integrated into custom hardware designs. An additional connector also provides an INT signal, enabling the use of hardware interrupts generated by the sensor when specific measurement conditions are met.

Modulino Light programming

Using the module is made extremely simple thanks to the official Arduino Modulino library . After connecting the sensor, simply install the library from the Arduino IDE to access ready-made functions for sensing color, light intensity, and infrared radiation levels. The library allows, among other things, retrieving RGB values, reading light intensity in lux, detecting the approximate color name, and monitoring IR signal levels. The manufacturer also provides support for the MicroPython environment , allowing the module to be used in both classic Arduino projects and Python-based applications. Available examples include color sorting systems, intelligent lighting control, interactive lighting installations, environmental sensors, and educational applications demonstrating the operation of optical sensors.
