Product description: Arduino Modulino Motors - Dual Channel Motor Driver 5V - 24V / 3.8A - MAX2221 - Qwiic - ABX00114

Modulino Motors is a ready-to-use module from the Arduino Modulino family, designed for robotics, automation, and educational projects. It allows you to control drives without building a separate H-bridge circuit, making it suitable for both beginner Arduino users and more complex prototypes. The module uses a MAX22211 dual H-bridge controller and an STM32C011F6 microcontroller, which is responsible for I2C communication and control logic. It supports direction control, PWM speed control, braking, and operating modes useful for motor control. Separate power supplies for the logic and motor sections increase system safety, while protection against reverse polarity, overvoltage, short circuit, overheating, and overload facilitate the creation of reliable designs.

Modulino Motors based on the MAX22211 controller supports motor power supply from 5 V to 24 V and current up to 3.8 A per channel.

Main features of Arduino Modulino Motors

  • MAX22211 dual H-bridge driver : enables precise control of two output channels with a current of up to 3.8 A per channel
  • Wide motor power supply range : supports VM voltage from 5V to 24V, so it works with many small and medium-sized drives
  • Support for various actuators : allows you to control two DC motors, one bipolar stepper motor, electromagnets or valves
  • Qwiic/I2C connectivity : allows for quick connection to compatible Arduino boards without the need for soldering or extensive wiring
  • Separate power supply domains : the logic part operates at 3.3V and the motors are powered from a separate VM input
  • Built-in protection : the module has protection against reverse polarity, overvoltage, overcurrent, short circuit and overheating
  • Modulino's compact design : the small board makes it easy to install in mobile robots, mockups, demonstrators and IoT prototypes
  • Modulino compatibility : Arduino and MicroPython support makes it easy to get started quickly

Qwiic connectivity and module pinout

Modulino Motors communicates with the main board via the I2C bus, using the Qwiic connector or solder pads with the GND, 3.3V, SDA, and SCL lines. This allows the module to be connected to the Arduino UNO R4 WiFi , Arduino UNO Q , and select boards. Arduino Nano , and in the case of the Nano series, convenient connection is provided by the Arduino Nano Connector Carrier. Screw terminals are used to connect the VM motor power supply from 5V to 24V, as well as 1A, 2A, 1B, and 2B outputs for two DC motors or two stepper motor coils . The module also has additional pins, including RESET, SWCLK, SWDIO, SDA, SCL, VM, 3V3, and GND, providing greater integration options in advanced projects. The default I2C address is 0x6A and can be changed software-defined, allowing multiple Modulino Motors modules to be used on a single Qwiic chain.

Thanks to Qwiic and the Modulino library, it is a good choice for rapid prototyping, learning robotics, and expanding Arduino projects.

Modulino Motors Programming

Using the module has been simplified thanks to the Modulino library, which supports programming in both Arduino and MicroPython . You can control the direction, speed, and braking of the motors using simple functions, without manually configuring the entire H-bridge. The Arduino documentation includes examples and starter materials to help you quickly get your first robot or automation project off the ground . For more complex installations, the AddressChanger example is useful, allowing you to change the module's I2C address and connect multiple Modulino Motors controllers to a single Qwiic bus.
