Product description: U3V16F5 - step-up converter - 5 V 2 A - Pololu 4941
Pololu step-up converter with an output voltage of 5V and a capacity of 2A . The supply voltage ranges from 1.3V to 16V . The minimum voltage required for start-up is 2.7V. Typical converter efficiency is 85% to 95% , depending on the input voltage and load. Output current is proportional to the input current, efficiency, and the VOUT to VIN amplification factor.
U3V16F5 converter pinouts
- VOUT - output voltage 5 V
- GND - system ground (common for VIN and VOUT)
- VIN - input voltage from 2.7 V to 16 V (after starting the system, the input voltage may drop to at least 1.3 V)
Voltage surges
When applying power to the module, the initial current can cause dangerous voltage spikes that are significantly higher than the input voltage. Pololu's research has determined that for input voltages above 9V, the spikes can have amplitudes large enough to damage the module. To protect against this undesirable phenomenon, it is recommended to solder a capacitor of at least 33uF as close as possible to the converter's power pins.
Converter system efficiency
Efficiency is defined as the ratio of output power to input power (Power out)/(Power in). It is one of the most important parameters of a converter, especially when working with portable energy sources.
