The Prusa USS Drybox was designed from the ground up as a container to protect filaments from moisture during storage and printing. The manufacturer claims up to 95% less moisture absorption compared to open-air storage , 5 times greater airtightness than standard dryboxes, and 50% better sealing. Using 50g of silica gel, it's possible to maintain relative humidity at around 10% for weeks. A sealed port allows filament to be fed through a PTFE tube without having to open the container, while side flaps allow for spool rotation or access to the desiccant. The Drybox primarily serves to slow the absorption of moisture by the filament—it is not an active dryer . Wet material must be properly dried beforehand and then stored in the container under controlled conditions.

For spools from other manufacturers, especially cardboard spools, an adapter may be needed to ensure proper spool rotation. Filament can also be fed from the Drybox to 3D printers from other manufacturers . The PTFE tube allows the material to be fed directly to the filament feed system, while the mounting of the container itself depends on the spool holder design of the printer. With available models and adapters for 3D printing, the system can be adapted to many station configurations.
