5 V from the mains straight on the PCB
Mean Well IRM-05-5 is an AC-DC power supply in the form of a module that you solder directly to the PCB and produces a stable 5 V at up to 1 A. It works from a mains voltage of 85 V to 305 V AC, so it will power a microcontroller, a WiFi module or sensors in a device powered from a wall socket.
The module has a case made of 94V-0 flame-retardant plastic, potted with silicone, which helps dissipate heat and protects the electronics from dust and vibration. It meets the class B emission standard without an additional filter, has insulation class II and draws less than 0.1 W with no load.

Did you know?
Silicone-potted
The inside of the IRM-05 module is potted with silicone. According to the manufacturer, this improves heat dissipation and vibration resistance up to 5G, and the plastic case with a 94V-0 flammability rating is self-extinguishing once the flame is removed.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need an additional interference filter?
No. The manufacturer states that the module meets the EN 55032 emission standard in class B without additional components. The final device still has to be checked for electromagnetic compatibility.
How do I solder the module?
You can wave-solder the module at up to 265 °C for a maximum of 5 seconds, or hand-solder it with an iron at up to 390 °C for a maximum of 3 seconds.
Can I power it with DC voltage?
Yes, the module also works with DC voltage from 120 V to 430 V DC.
