Product description: Fermion - EtOH ethanol sensor - MEMS - 1-500 ppm - DFRobot SEN0569
A sensor manufactured by DFRobot designed to detect ethanol EtOH present in the air. The module uses MEMS technology, which not only allows for obtaining highly precise measurements in the range from 1 ppm to 500 ppm , but also minimizes the size of the board, ensures low energy consumption and significantly reduces heat generation by the system. The sensor can be used to build prototype breathalyzers or other applications related to the detection of narcotic substances.

Ethanol occurs in small amounts in fruits and other plant foods, the result of natural fermentation.
What is ethanol and where is it found?
Ethanol, also known as ethyl alcohol (or simply alcohol), is a colorless, flammable liquid with a characteristic alcohol-like odor. It is one of the most commonly used organic solvents, as well as a key ingredient in alcoholic beverages such as beer, wine and other distillates. Ethanol is produced industrially, mainly by the fermentation of sugars by yeast, but it can also be produced synthetically by hydration of ethylene. In the food industry it is used as a preservative and flavor carrier. In pharmacy, ethanol is used as a solvent and disinfectant, and in the cosmetics industry - as an ingredient of perfumes and cleaning products. Ethanol also serves as a biofuel - fuel ethanol added to gasoline helps reduce pollutant emissions. It is also present in the atmosphere as part of the global biogeochmic cycle, although its concentrations are usually very low.
Suggested use of the sensor
- The structure of the breathalyzer - based on the analysis of exhaled air, it allows you to measure the alcohol content in a person's blood
- Environmental monitoring - examines the level of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in the environment
- Food inspection - measures EtOH emissions from food samples and determines their shelf life or quality.
Special features of the sensor
- It has a modernized MEMS system for precise EtOH measurement.
- Compact dimensions (13 x 13 x 2.4 mm) allow for easy integration with other project components.
- It has low energy consumption.
- Provides precise and stable value reading.
- It has high sensitivity and short response time.
Precautions during use
- Before using the sensor, remove the protective film from it.
- Avoid using it in an environment where it will be exposed to high concentrations of corrosive gases (such as H2S, SOX, Cl2, HCl, among others).
- Protect the sensor from contamination with alkalis, alkali metal salts and halogens.
- Avoid long-term exposure of the tile to unfavorable conditions (such as high temperatures, high humidity, high pollution).
- Do not expose the module to water.
- Do not expose the module to vibrations, impacts or falls from height.
- Do not test the module on systems that involve personal security concerns.
Attention! Fermion - EtOH ethanol sensor - MEMS allows only qualitative measurements.
