What is FFC/FPC tape?

FPC (Flexible Printed Circuit) is a ribbon cabling also known as FPCB (Flexible Printed Circuit Board) . Used in the area of mobile devices (mobile phones, laptops) and stationary devices (electronics and household appliances, industrial controllers, modules and educational kits) for internal data transmission between the internal modules of these devices : motherboards, displays, cameras, keyboards, expansion cards. The basic advantages of the FPC tape are the possibility of implementing a multi-layer conductive system , the possibility of high miniaturization - reduction of internal wiring, connection flexibility (the tape is resistant to repeated bending and twisting), significant simplification of service work (quick disassembly of electrical connections of modules in the device). An action to reduce the costs of producing FPC tapes was the introduction of FFC tapes, i.e. Flexible Flat Cable, to the market. It is a miniaturized form of the popular ribbon cable, and due to the manufacturing technology (copper foil covered with insulating foils), FFC tape is a cheaper alternative to FPC tapes .

ZIF connectors

An essential accessory enabling the use of FFC/FPC tapes are dedicated ZIF (Zero Insertion Force) connectors . ZIF connectors are equipped with a socket into which we insert the FFC/FPC tape and pins enabling soldering the connector to the printed circuit board. The ZIF connector socket is equipped with a latch that protects the tape against automatic removal. Due to the method of assembly, connectors can be divided into vertical and angular with bottom, top or both-sided contact orientation.

▷ FFC tape - What is it?

FFC tape (Flexible Flat Cable) is a smaller variant of the popular FPC tape. The FFC tape production process allows for significant cost reductions (compared to FPC tape). It involves the use of copper foil, which is covered with special insulating foils. The use of FFC tapes includes, among others: small mobile devices. It will also be perfect for prototyping because it will reduce the weight, size and number of wires. In addition, the FFC tape is characterized by flexibility and increased bending resistance.

▷ FPC Tape - What is it?

FPC (Flexible Printed Circuit) tape is often called a flexible printed circuit. This is nothing more than tape cabling, which is widely used not only in mobile devices, but also in stationary devices, such as industrial controllers, household appliances, RTV and many others. FPC tape is used primarily for internal (within a given device) data transfer. The basic advantages of the FPC tape are primarily high connection flexibility, mechanical resistance and quick assembly and disassembly.
