MQ-3 alcohol sensor
Joy-IT SEN-MQ3-V2 is a board with a semiconductor MQ-3 sensor that detects alcohol, that is ethanol, at concentrations from 100 ppm to 10,000 ppm. The board has an analog output from 0 V to 5 V and a digital output with a threshold set by a potentiometer, so you get an alarm signal without an additional circuit. You power the sensor with 5 V.

The MQ-3 sensor is optimized for detecting ethanol, but the manufacturer notes that it also reacts to hydrogen. Keep this in mind when calibrating and in projects where hydrogen may be present in the air.
Frequently asked questions
Can I build a breathalyzer with it?
The manufacturer states that the sensor is suitable for breath alcohol testers. The result depends on calibration, so this is a solution for projects, not a measuring instrument.
How do I connect it to an Arduino?
The manufacturer connects VCC to 5 V, GND to ground, DOUT to pin D8 and AOUT to input A0. The analog value is then in the range from 0 to 1023.
What does it react to besides alcohol?
The sensor is optimized for ethanol, but it also reacts to hydrogen. The manufacturer recommends taking this into account when designing and calibrating the circuit.
