In the era of ubiquitous digital electronics we are constantly encountering devices that not only listen to our commands but also generate high quality sound. Not long ago the construction of a device offering such functions was extremely difficult and expensive. Today, we have a wide range of player modules at hand, allowing us to implement complex voice functions using just a few pins of a simple microcontroller. Selected models even allow recording several hours long.

What audio recording format should I use?
Among dozens of audio recording formats, three standards are currently the most popular:
WAV – this is the so-called uncompressed audio – audio samples are saved and played back one by one, exactly as they were recorded. WAV files offer the highest sound quality (lossless recording), but they take up quite a lot of memory.
MP3 - the most popular lossy recording format in the world - the data is compressed, which means that at the price of a greater or lesser loss of sound quality, we can save recordings that are many times longer on the same storage capacity. By choosing the compression level, we can establish a compromise between quality and file size.
Ogg – a lossy (compressed) recording format that provides comparable or higher sound quality compared to MP3. When using this format, please check whether our MP3 module has the function to play this type of files.
MP3 / WAV / OOG / MIDI players - the Swiss army knife of audio
One player module can allow you to play several types of files, and the most sophisticated models also allow you to record sound using the built-in microphone or line input. A simple WAV player or MP3 player can be a universal module with goldpin pins or an Arduino shield.
For people involved in sound production or home recording, we recommend a functional, modular MIDI player.
Small but unforgiving
An MP3 or WAV player in the form of a module can be easily connected to Arduino or any microcontroller and control the playback of recordings without going into the intricacies of audio technology. Our offer includes player modules that work with memory cards. Thanks to this, you can easily save new files, and with a large capacity memory card you will never run out of space for further recordings. However, if you do not need many hours of recordings, and instead just a few or a dozen short audio messages, consider purchasing a module with built-in Flash memory. The Adafruit Audio FX Mini Sound Board WAV/OGG player has 2MB of built-in memory, so you can upload the necessary messages to the module via a microUSB cable without the need for an SD card.
MP3 / WAV / OGG / MIDI players - FAQ
It is worth choosing an MP3 player that allows you to connect various devices ( headphones , speakers , microphone, computer) and also plays as many popular music file formats as possible, such as OGG, MIDI or WAV. Another practical feature is an additional memory card that can hold more music.
MP3 files can be played on most smartphones, laptops and personal computers, as well as on special devices (MP3 and MP4 players).
Nowadays, the vast majority of features available in MP3 players can be found in every popular smartphone. However, the advantage of the players is the ability to work for a long time on a single charge and high mechanical durability.
