Product Description: Li-Pol / Li-Ion 5V bq25185 Battery Charging Module USB Type-C / DC / Solar Panel - Adafruit 6106
The Adafruit bq25185 is designed for mobile electronics projects requiring a reliable power source. The Texas Instruments bq25185 charger IC supports charging batteries from a USB Type-C port, a DC power supply , and solar panels . The built-in TPS61023 converter steps up the battery voltage to a regulated 5V , allowing direct powering of microcontrollers, communication modules, displays, and other electronic devices. The Power Path feature allows the battery to power a load while charging, reducing the number of charge-discharge cycles.

The USB Type-C connector with 5.1 kΩ CC resistors provides a voltage of 5 V and a current of up to 1 A.
Main features of the module
- Multi-source charging : Supports USB Type-C port, DC power adapters, and solar panels
- bq25185 system : charger designed for Li-Ion and Li-Pol 1S batteries
- TPS61023 converter : stabilized 5V output with a maximum current of 1A
- Power Path : Powering the load and charging the battery simultaneously
- Solar charging : dynamic regulation of energy consumption from the solar panel
- Configurable charging current : 1 A or 500 mA after changing the jumper
- Status LEDs : charging, error and active 5V output indication
- EN input : 5V converter can be disabled
- Protection : protection against overvoltage, overload, short circuit and overheating
- Easy integration : JST-PH and screw connectors
Module pins and interfaces
The module is equipped with a USB Type-C port for powering and charging the battery, and a VIN input supporting voltages from 5 V to 18 V. The Li-Ion or Li-Polymer battery is connected via the popular 2-pin JST-PH connector. The board also features USB D+ and D- signal pins, allowing the use of USB data lines in projects requiring communication with external devices. The stabilized 5 V output voltage is provided via a screw connector and solder pads. Access to the EN pin allows programmatic switching of the converter and access to the battery voltage measurement points.
