SparkFun Spectral UV Sensor is a UV light sensor equipped with the AS7331 chip from AMS OSRAM. It allows for the measurement of UV radiation on three channels - UVA (from 320 nm to 400 nm), UVB (from 280 nm to 320 nm) and UVC (from 200 nm to 280 nm). Each channel has a separate photodiode with built-in interference filters, and the module itself is characterized by high sensitivity and measurement accuracy. The sensor can work in four modes - single measurement CMD, continuous measurement CONT, synchronized start SYNS and synchronized start and stop SYND. Low power consumption is ensured by the automatic power off sequence between measurements.

How to measure ultraviolet radiation?
Ultraviolet (UV) radiation measurement requires the use of specialized sensors because standard photodiodes, phototransistors, and photoresistors cannot detect light in the UV range. Ultraviolet light includes wavelengths below 400 nm, which are outside the range visible to the human eye. UV photodetectors are used to detect this type of radiation, which have adapted spectral characteristics that allow for precise detection of shorter light waves. The natural source of ultraviolet is the Sun, while artificial emitters include fluorescent lamps used in solariums, cosmetic lamps, and sterilizing radiators.
