What is an AGM battery?

An AGM battery (Absorbent Glass Mat battery) is one of the types of lead-acid batteries. Inside such a battery there is a fiberglass separator (in the form of a mat), thanks to which there is no risk of electrolyte leakage and the device can operate in any position. Fires of this type were manufactured according to the principle - a tight battery is a safe battery.

In addition, a one-way pressure valve safely discharges the resulting gas to the atmosphere. Thanks to this, this type of accumulator equalizes the pressure effectively and safely.

Batteries made using AGM (absorbent glass mat) technology - what else is worth knowing about them?

The electrolyte concentrated in glass mats makes AGM batteries resistant to shocks, impacts and vibrations, and they do not require adding water (just like gel batteries, they belong to the group of maintenance-free batteries). They are also characterized by low internal resistance and high level of maximum power (starting power). A huge advantage of AGM batteries is their resistance to cold and the ability to work efficiently at low temperatures, which makes these devices an ideal proposition for drivers. AGM batteries are also very durable; their service life can be up to four times longer than that of a traditional battery (i.e. lead-acid battery).

Application of AGM batteries

AGM batteries are perfect for applications that require fast but relatively low current consumption. Therefore, they are often used to start passenger cars - especially those with a Start-Stop system, which forces the battery to start and turn off the engine multiple times during one route. AGM technology is also suitable for starting engines with high current consumption, which is typical, for example, for off-road vehicles.

In addition, batteries with a fiberglass mat are also used as a starting element in UPS emergency power systems, which provide protection in the event of an interruption in the supply of electricity from the grid. AGM batteries can be used both in cyclic operation (as an independent power source, for example in golf carts, cash registers or lawn mowers) and in buffer operation (power supply activated in special cases - for example in alarm systems or emergency electricity supply installations). . It is worth remembering that other types of batteries should not be placed in installations (e.g. in vehicles) where an AGM battery was originally installed! The Botland store also offers gel batteries, in which the electrolyte is in the form of a gel. The tight design makes it easier to use, which is why the gel battery is also very popular.

Correct use of the AGM battery

AGM batteries are very resistant to high momentary current consumption, low temperature, impacts and shocks. They are also leak-free and maintenance-free, so their operation is very convenient and uncomplicated. It is worth remembering that these devices are relatively sensitive to deep discharge (although in high-class models the resistance is comparable to gel batteries). Therefore, you should always check the battery charge and, if necessary, top it up to the appropriate level, which will extend the life of the device and prevent it from being damaged. The choice of an AGM battery should take into account electrical parameters and additional properties.

What AGM batteries can you find in our offer?

In this category, we offer a wide selection of AGM batteries created by the Polish brand Green Cell. Various types of batteries are available with a voltage of 12 V (standard voltage in passenger cars) and 6 V (popular voltage in UPS emergency power systems). We offer batteries with capacities of 7 Ah, 7.2 Ah, 9 Ah, 12 Ah and 18 Ah.

Unlike traditional lead-acid batteries, which contain liquid electrolyte, AGM batteries are not exposed to leaks. All devices available in this section have been designed and manufactured with the highest level of attention to every detail, so you can be sure of their failure-free and efficient operation for a long time. Before choosing an AGM battery, first of all, you should check the electrical parameters of a specific model and adjust them in terms of powering the components (selected models can safely power a large number of electrical receivers).

AGM batteries - FAQ

AGM batteries are more expensive than regular batteries, but they offer better durability and greater efficiency, and are resistant to shocks and pressure changes, making them better suited to certain applications than batteries with liquid or gel electrolyte.

Yes, but only for cars in which the manufacturer provides such a solution. Always install the type of battery recommended by the manufacturer in your vehicle.

AGM batteries should be charged using special chargers with electronic control systems that allow you to control parameters such as changes in temperature, intensity and current.
