Electrically powered magnets for mechanical systems

An electromagnet is a type of magnet in which the magnetic field is created by an electric current . Electromagnets usually consist of wire wound around a coil . The current flowing through the winding creates a magnetic field that is concentrated in the center of the coil. The magnetic field disappears when the current is turned off. Coils of wire are often wound around a magnetic core made of a ferromagnetic material such as iron - the core concentrates the magnetic flux and creates a stronger electromagnet. The purpose of the magnetic field is to influence ferromagnetic metals.

Simple magnetic field control

The main advantage of an electromagnet over a permanent magnet is that the magnetic field can be changed quickly by controlling the amount of electric current in the winding . However, unlike a permanent magnet (e.g. a neodymium magnet ), which does not require power, an electromagnet requires a continuous supply of current to maintain a magnetic field . They are used, among others, in electric motors. Electromagnets powered by electricity produce a magnetic field only when electric current flows through the winding.

Magnetic field - magnets available in the offer

Our online store offers electromagnets with different voltages and currents, which allows you to select a system that suits your individual needs. Modules integrated with the control electronics are also available, which simplifies the implementation of such an electromagnet in an electronic system, for example with an Arduino module.

Holding electromagnets for access control

One of the applications of holding electromagnets available in our store are access control systems - door locks. Holding electromagnets (another name: holding electromagnets) are used to hold doors that should not be open at a given moment. The electronic system, after receiving a signal from the system controlling the lock - card reader, RFID token, code keyboard, etc. - deenergizes the electromagnet coil, which stops it from being attracted to the metal plate on the door. At this point you can open the door normally and enter the room. The electromagnet is switched on again after a while and when the door is closed, it does not allow it to be opened again until the signal from the access control system is given again. Electromagnets can be perfect for many electronics projects. In turn, industrial electromagnets, as the name suggests, are used on a wide scale in various industries.

Electromagnets - FAQ

An electromagnet is a device consisting of a core of magnetic material surrounded by a coil through which an electric current flows to magnetize the core. The electromagnet is used where controllable magnets are needed, e.g. when the magnetic flux is to be changed, reversed or turned on and off.

Neodymium magnets come in various sizes, shapes and weights. At Botland you will find them in sets of several pieces and as single pieces, round and rectangular magnets, cylindrical magnets, holding, pushing and pulling magnets. It is worth trying models with an additional layer of glue for easy assembly.

Prices of electromagnets in Botland range from several dozen zlotys to just over PLN 100 per piece. An important parameter of holding electromagnets, which determines the price, is the value of the mass that it can hold in kilograms (the same applies to other types of electromagnets).
