Product description: Ultimate GPS - PA1616D GPS module - Adafruit 5440
The Ultimate GPS module also supports GLONASS for even greater range. It is based on the PA1616D / MTK3333 chip , thanks to which it can track up to 33 satellites on 99 channels, it has a high sensitivity receiver up to -165 dBm and a built-in antenna. It can perform up to 10 location updates per second. For communication, it uses the UART serial interface, the logical voltage of which is 3.3 V. The module supply voltage is 3.3 V or 5 V. The module only consumes approx. 29 mA during navigation. The board also has a CR1220 battery connector to maintain RTC operation and the possibility of hot start. The built-in LED flashes at a frequency of about 1 Hz while searching for satellites, and once a fix is found, it flashes once every 15 seconds to save power.
Main features of the GPS module
- Sensitivity -165 dBm, 10 Hz updates, 99 channels
- GPS + GLONASS support
- It works with a voltage of 5 V and consumes only 30 mA of current
- Compatible with the breadboard + two mounting holes
- Equipped with an RTC battery connector
- Built-in data recording system
- PPS output on fix
- Internal antenna + U.FL connector for external antenna
- Status LED
- Support external antenna and pulse output
Ultimate GPS module output
The module is supplied with the voltage of 3.3 or 5 V, but the communication interface works only with the voltage of 3.3 V. Ultimate GPS communicates with the microcontroller via the UART serial interface.
- VIN - supply voltage from 3.0 V to 5 V
- GND - the ground of the system
- TX - GPS serial interface connector, its logical voltage is 3.3 V, the output data speed is 9600 baud
- RX - GPS serial interface connector, logic voltage is 3.3V or 5V, the default receiving speed is 9600 baud
- FIX - device status signaling output - the same output that is connected to the status LED
- VBAT - pin connected with an additional power supply of the real time clock, connected to the battery connector, the maximum voltage that can be given to this pin is 3.3 V
- EN - pin allows the module to be turned off by any GPIO of the microcontroller, by default pulled up to VIN via 10 kΩ, giving the low state turns off the system
- 3.3V - regulator output 3.3 V with a maximum capacity of 100 mA
- PPS - pulse-per-second signal output of the GPS module
