Description: OBD II Diagnostic Module - Car Diagnostics Kit - SparkFun RTL-10769
The module enables access to OBD-II car diagnostics system, installed in cars produced after 2001 in European Union, and after 2002 in Poland. The system allows, among others, to read trouble codes (DTC - diagnostic trouble codes) stored in the memory, concerning the engine, electronic devices, etc. The system allows the use of the ELM327 command set through a serial interface.
The connection between the board and the car is done via DB9 - DLC 9 cable (included in the set). DLC is standard diagnostic connector used in OBD II systems. The standard defines also the way of communication with the on-board computer so called ECU (Electronic Control Unit). More information can be found in the manual.
The output of the module is the UART serial interface that enables connection with a computer via USB to UART adapter. On the board there is STN1110 chip that converts data from OBD II system to UART (RS-322) serial interface frames. It allows serial transmission of a standard set of ELM327 commands from a PC or a development kit (e.g. Arduino) to the central unit of the car.
