Electromagnet module with 25 N force
Joy-IT SEN-MAG25N is an electromagnet module with a copper coil on an iron core that, powered with 5 V, holds an iron object with a force of about 25 N, that is about 2.5 kg. You switch the electromagnet on with a high state on the SIG pin, so you control it with an ordinary digital output of the microcontroller. For mounting the module the manufacturer provided an M4 screw.

The manufacturer states that the same electromagnet, powered with 5 V, holds about 2.5 kg when applied to iron 2 mm thick. With 1 mm thick iron the force drops to about 1.5 kg.

How do I control the electromagnet?
You apply a high state to the SIG pin and the module switches the coil on. In the examples the manufacturer controls it from pin GPIO17 of a Raspberry Pi and from pin D8 of an Arduino.
How much current does it draw?
The manufacturer states a consumption under 350 mA at 3.3 V supply and under 500 mA at 5 V. Therefore connect the VCC supply to a source with sufficient capacity.
How strongly does it hold?
At 5 V supply the module holds about 2.5 kg when applied to iron 2 mm thick. With 1 mm thick iron the force is about 1.5 kg.
