Voltage, capacity and dimensions - an eternal compromise
For every power source, the designer has to decide on a certain compromise. As capacity and nominal voltage of battery or accumulator increases, its dimensions inevitably grow - the limitation here is so called energy density which determines how much energy can be accumulated in given volume or unit mass of source. It means that - for example - capacity of small battery with voltage of 12V is very small, but much more energy can be provided by large cell with 8 times lower voltage. The capacity of a given energy source is described as the time during which a cell, battery or accumulator will be able to deliver a current of a specified amperage - this is where the unit of (m)Ah capacity, or (milli)ampere-hour, comes from.
Remote control batteries
In remote controls for unlocking the central locking system in the car and in some other remote controls, tiny batteries with a voltage of 12V are very often used. Their designation is sometimes written as 23A or A23, but there are also a number of other commercial names such as LR23A or V23. Batteries of this type have a diameter of 10 mm and are 28 mm long. Very similar, but slightly smaller, are 27A batteries - they also offer 12 V voltage and their dimensions are 7.7 mm x 28 mm. In our offer you can also find CR123A batteries with voltage of 3 V and dimensions of 16.8 x 34.5 mm. It is worth to know that four times lower (compared to A23 and 27A) nominal voltage and slightly larger dimensions result in significant increase of capacity of this type of batteries, up to 1400 mAh.
