Description
One of the smallest IoT modules available on the market that are running onLinux OS. It works on the basis of a processorMediatek MT7688with frequency signal580 MHz, has64 MB RAM and 16 MBof internalFlash memory. In addition, there is awi-fi moduleand the interfaces:15x GPIO, PWM, UART, I2C, SPI.
The compact size of the module allow you to use it in the broadly understood world of the Internet of Things (IoT).
Programming
When powered, omega creates a wi-fi network calledomega-ABCD. whereABCD are the last digit of the MAC address located on the sticker on the omega. The default password for the network is: 12345678
To start working with the module omega 2, it is sufficient to connect the system to a wi-fi network (password: 12345678) and run any browser on the computer system:
- OS X
- Linux
- Windows requires installation ofapp Bonjour
In the browser address bar, you just need to specify the device name as standard:
where ABCD are the last digits of the MAC address located on the sticker on the omega
- However, if for some reason a connection cannot be initiated, you can specify a direct IP address default: http://192.168.3.1
You will then log in by entering the default Dan:
- username: root
- password: onionee
A detailed description can be found in theextensive documentation of the manufacturer. |
What on the board?
Omega 2 has a powerful processor, awi-fi network controller with internal antenna. At user's disposale there are also popular communication interfaces such as:
Connectors
Omega has outputs distributed in a convenient way on the edges of the board, a nest.FL allows you to connect an external WiFi antenna. Mounting holes allow for easy mounting of the board to the case with screws.
The distribution of connectors on the board Onion Omega 2.

There are different types an extension available that adds extra features to the omega-2, for example:
- Onion Ethernet Expansion- Omega 2 connecting to an Ethernet network
- Onion Expansion Relay- 2 relay 250 VAC. DC / 60 W
- Onion Servo Expansion- 16x PWM generator
- Onion Expansion OLEDdisplay 0,96"
- Onion Expansion GPS- with the GPS module
- Onion Expansion Proto- universal board for Omega2
To the above mentioned extensions you also require an expansion type Dock, such as:
Example using a temperature sensorDS18B20and using Omega Cloud
